Al & Cecilia Schallenberger are a husband and wife farming team in Virginia. They grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Virginia in 1981. Armed with years of professional experience in mechanical, manufacturing and network engineering, as well as project and program management, they set out to prove that the average farmer could build a USDA-approved dairy and sell goat cheese - without selling illegally or breaking the bank.
Their 45-acre Sweet Valley Farm was established in 1998 on the beautiful Rappahannock River in Culpeper County, Virginia.
Milk from our own hand-raised, hand-milked goats is made into Chevre (both plain and loaded with local flavors), as well as Feta and other semi-soft and aged goat cheeses.

Goat Milk Soaps
The old way is the best way to beautiful skin! Our soaps contain only goat milk, lye, and lard. After curing for 30 days, the lye dissipates, leaving a gentle glycerin product that is milled, melted, and poured into pretty molds for your use.
Goat Milk Whey
Goat whey may sound like an odd or old-fashioned remedy, but it's a natural and abundant dietary supplement that can restore proper function to the stomach, intestines and colon. The base of many protein drinks, whey strengthens the immune system and helps prevent atrophy for those in danger of a loss of mobility in the limbs. During the 1800s, "whey houses" were popular stops in western Europe, particularly for older men who touted the effects of whey for adding to their longevity. Goat whey was credited with eliminating everything from intestinal disorders to arthritis. Available by special order please.
Hand-raised goat kids are available each year for pets, 4-H projects, and other non-meat uses. Please contact us for details.
